Interior decorating 101

If you’re interested in becoming an interior decorator, I’ve done an interior decorating course and will give some tips. The information in this section is taken from the course materials.

According to Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs,” once our basic needs for physical and emotional well-being are fulfilled (for example, once we have food, water, and security), we become concerned with “higher” needs. Among these higher needs are “aesthetic needs”—an appreciation and desire for beauty and order.

Interior Decorating vs. Interior Design.

It is important to know these differences. Most interior decorators are hired to decorate homes, but they may also be hired to decorate the interiors of businesses such as boutiques, restaurants, and offices. They may work on the entire interior of a building or just a single room. There are no formal educational requirements to enter this career.

While anyone can become an interior decorator, it is considerably more difficult to become a certified interior designer.

Interior designers may work on a wide variety of interiors, such as office buildings, airport terminals, hospitals, manufacturing plants, government institutions, and many other types of buildings. To do their job properly, interior designers must be educated in a number of areas. To quote from the official definition, the skills they need include: Research and analysis of the client’s goals and requirements development of documents, drawings, and diagrams that outline clients’ needs ensuring that preliminary space plans and design concepts are safe, functional, aesthetically appropriate, and meet all public health, safety, and welfare requirements, including construction code guidelines.

Eclectic style is one of the most popular styles use to decorate. In essence, this style is created when items from two or more different styles are combined together. It is often the most natural way to decorate because we can use items that you already have and add different style items to them. Although it might seem that decorating with an Eclectic style will be the easiest, it is in fact one of the hardest styles to pull off successfully and that is why we take into consideration the design elements to ensure that the look is finished and pulls together to create a fabulous looking space. My initial job was to update the look of my living room and entrance. Eclectic was the preferred style. Before and after pics
