We are a part of our social surroundings, just as we are with the special individuals in our lives, our friends and family. The social environment includes elements of society—both good and bad—that have an effect on personal interactions. Examples include the Internet, mass media, shifting gender roles, and urbanization and population growth. Individually, we don’t have much of an impact, but society undoubtedly impacts our views, behaviors, and interpersonal, marital, and family dynamics.
