I’ve seen quotes circulating that Charlie Kirk said sympathy is a better word to use than empathy. If that’s true, it’s important to note they aren’t the same thing.
I think a lot of folks don’t understand the difference between Sympathy and empathy. And, why one is more powerful than the other. To me, sympathy means “I understand” while empathy goes a little deeper it’s “I feel with you” Empathy allows me to sit with you because of shared experiences. People can have sympathy but it doesn’t go beyond that because they’ve never experienced what you have experienced.
