There have been multiple shootings lately, but the media and public attention is focus on one. The outrage is intense, and many insist that certain victims “didn’t deserve” to die but if we single out one person as undeserving and call them a martyr, it implies that other victims were somehow less worthy.
Between the 2000–01 and 2021–22 school years there were 1,375 school shootings in U.S. elementary and secondary schools, resulting in 515 deaths and 1,161 injuries. Who is still demanding justice? Why has so much attention been placed on one public figure’s tragic death that voices speaking out against them are being silenced, while real conversations about protecting children in schools remain unaddressed?
