The Soulmate Myth No One Talks About

I recently wrote about how many women who have elevated themselves, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and even professionally, often find it difficult to meet men at the same level. Not because there’s something “wrong” with them, but because growth changes what feels aligned. When you outgrow certain dynamics, you also outgrow certain connections.

After coming across a post about the idea that we experience different soulmates at different levels, something clicked. It helped explain why we can feel a deep, undeniable connection with someone, yet still feel unfulfilled or restless within the relationship. Connection alone isn’t the measure of alignment. Depth doesn’t always equal longevity.

Some soulmates come into our lives to awaken us. Others arrive to heal parts of us, teach us lessons, or mirror unresolved patterns. These connections can feel intense, meaningful, even life-changing, but intensity doesn’t always mean sustainability. A relationship can be soulful and still not support who you are becoming.

The highest level of soulmate connection isn’t just about chemistry, history, or emotional depth. It’s about expansion. If a relationship continues to grow, and both people are able to live out their individual purpose within it, without shrinking, self-betrayal, or stagnation, that’s where true alignment exists.

When a relationship expands rather than confines, it becomes a space where both individuals can evolve. There is mutual encouragement, not competition. Support, not control. Growth, not sacrifice of self. You don’t have to abandon your calling, dim your light, or pause your becoming to keep the relationship intact.

This is why women who elevate often feel alone, not because they can’t love deeply, but because they’re no longer willing to settle for connections that require them to stay small. The right soulmate doesn’t just connect with your heart; they align with your purpose.

And that, perhaps, is the difference between a soulmate who passes through your life and one who is meant to walk beside you as you become who you were always meant to be.
